Education
Professional Development
In the fall of 2012 I took an Emergency First Aid and CPR/AED. I am now qualified in Emergency First Aid. This is extremely important to have as a teacher because you are responsible to your students. If a student would be in need of first aid in my class I want to know that I would be as prepared as possible to help them. Smarter with Technology was a very informative session by Devon Caldwell. She taught us how a classroom can use multiple, free, Web 2.0 technologies to make learning more engaging. It was hands on and we even got to see how her kindergarten class operated when we skyped in with them. In this GIS and GPS technology session we learned how to use this technology in our math, science and geography classes. It was very informative and definitely a very practice tool to integrate into the classroom. Integrating this into the classroom would be very engaging. This is one more great tool for my toolbox! At WestCAST I was able to connect with lots of new teachers. Some of these teachers have many years of experience but most of them were student teachers. It was great to connect with these people and build my professional learning network. WestCAST also gave me a lot of new resources and ideas to use in my future. During the 2011 SAGE day on October 21, 2011 I attended workshops held by the Science Teachers Association of Manitoba. My workshops included CSI in the classroom, Genes in a Bottle, Grade 11 and 12 Physics labs and Grade 12 Biology Labs. I learned a lot about these topics but more importantly I made connections with other teachers. We were able to talk about what challenges new teachers face and how to address these concerns. In the 2011 FAB 5 conference I attended there were some very interesting talks about dealing with multiple level classrooms. The talks I took the most out of was classroom management, building relations and a talk we had on Inclusion. These talks opened my eyes to the idea that you will be spending a lot of your time dealing with a few students in your class. I really enjoyed how, in the Inclusion talk, we learned about creating Class Review Recording Forms to help address the concerns in the class effectively. Real World Teaching 2 was a session that was held at Brandon University by Brian Cox. He showed us his unique look at teaching and how students should be involved in their assessment. I enjoyed his open approach to learning and can really see how the students could get excited about his method. Mathopoly is a game designed completely from the grade 5 to 8 curriculum. It is a unique and engaging way of evaluating and practicing math skills. Willi Penner, the games inventor, came and showed us how to use the game effectively in our classrooms. In our session on Online and Text Resources for EAL Teachers we were given many online and text base resources for teaching EAL learners. Joanna Ford is a great resource for this information and this session blessed us with her many years of knowledge on this subject Brandon University Orientation was a great experience where we learned about resume and cover letter writing and Manitoba Teacher society. Most importantly we took a day and learned curriculum planning and learned how to write up lesson plans. |
Work Experiences
Volunteer Experiences
In 2011 I helped coach the Junior Varsity girls Volleyball team at Souris Collegiate. I helped run practices and teach basic skills to the girls.
During 2009 and 2010 I volunteered for the Children's Wish Foundation in Winnipeg. Here, I attended many events that they were putting on throughout the community. My jobs were to answer questions about the foundation and collect donations. In 2007 I coached the Junior Varsity girls Basketball team at Warren Collegiate. I taught the girls basic skills of the game. The games and practices were always over seen by a teacher but I was responsible for all other aspects of the team. 2003 to 2006 I was the sole Sunday School teacher at the Woodlands Catholic Church. I developed lesson plans and organized the classroom on my own. Parents were always in the building but I was responsible for the care of the students. |
